Children who are looked after by the Local Authority are more likely to have mental health problems compared to children who are not.  To support parents who adopt children with mental health difficulties the Adoption Support Fund was created.  To date it has provided over 10,000 families with £38m of agreed therapeutic funding, but what is it and how does it work?

Substance misuse is the term used to describe the long term harmful and hazardous use of mind altering substances including alcohol, tobacco, prescribed medication or illicit street drugs.  Repeated use of these substances can lead to increased tolerance and ultimately addiction which can dictate the user’s behaviour and daily activity.
