Consultation Service in Milton Keynes

We aim to help children, young people, adults and their families or carers with structured effective psychological treatments for a wide range of psychological difficulties. We only use accredited evidenced based psychometric assessments with all our interventions carried out within the highest standards according to NICE (National Institute for Clinical Excellence). These interventions are undertaken by experienced clinical or forensic psychologists with expertise in the area of difficulty and age range of the client.

As we are a private practice you do not your GP or any other healthcare provider to make a referral for you.  You can call or email us today and ask to see one of team.  We are usually able to offer appointments within a couple of days and sometimes even on the same day!

Who do I need to see?

Whether you choose a clinical or counselling psychologist, psychotherapist or counsellor depends on the nature of your issue as well as other conditions such as time limitations. You may also be referred to see a psychologist by your GP, a psychiatrist or other mental health care practitioner or service.

In summary, psychologists have a scientific background and a theoretical understanding about human behaviour that they combine with counselling skills. They are good at giving you practical skills and knowledge to help you cope better with your day to day life and the issue that concerns you. However they do not prescribe medication and tend to work on a short or mid-term.

All of these differences may seem overwhelming and confusing however our Case Management Team are highly trained and willing to discuss this with you so that you are able to make an informed choice.

Initial or Enhanced Consultation?

We offer clients two types of consultation depending on the level of need, presenting difficulties and what they are looking to achieve.  For most clients an initial consultation is all that is required to provide them with an understanding of why they are experiencing difficulty and the options available going forward.

In some cases it can be quite difficult to provide the right recommendations without gathering some additional information on what is currently being experienced.  The Practice MK has invested over £30,000 in psychometric tests and assessments that are well respected and have a proven evidence base for reliability.

For clients choosing our enhanced consultation service, prior to their appointment may be sent a number of self-assessment tests to complete and may include ones for relatives or schools to complete.  This can provide our team with a lot more information to assist them in developing their clinical formulation of your difficulties.

Clients choosing this enhanced service will also receive a comprehensive report which can be shared with other healthcare practitioners.  If you require onward referral to other healthcare agencies, we will do this on your behalf.
